My understanding is you can still deny them, you just can't say it is because they are section 8, you need to come up with another reason.

Also I know that if there is a mortgage on a property and it goes to tax sale, the winner of the sale wouldn't have to pay the mortgage- they would just deny the redemption and then they would have the property free and clear.
