I agree with your point somewhat, except for the fact these were my first 2 STR's and the mansion provided revenue that fueled the early stages of our still ongoing business (so IMO still providing a return) and also the lessons learned were invaluable.

Could be wrong but I believe the monthly allocation is simply a way of accounting for the cash we will need to set aside on average to pay for ongoing maintenance, repairs, etc.
