Hard to stain, and if there are stains, they can be lightly sanded to remove the stain (plumbers got PVC primer on one tub during construction that has to be sanded out).  

Its a grind but be passionate about it and know there is light at the end of the tunnel!

We have taken several out, and replaced with overhead or recessed lighting. 

I think I'd tell you that you are new and need more info and that I'm here to help you see the light and the error of your noob ways.
