Expect also a charge for the water department to come out to turn on the main. and expect to have to set an appointment to do that.. they won't turn it on unless someone is at the property because of unforeseen leaks.

Luckily, the zoning and building department allowed me to keep it at no penalty, because I could prove it was there when I bought it, but I learned to check for building and permits for any unusual or even just newish features on a property.
