If you do decide to paint it, the only think I have found that will seal the knots and keep them from bleeding through later is the shellac primer from Zinsser.

I've seen plenty of homes where the attic was pretty sealed up by people siding over gable vents, so maybe you've got that going on.

I've even taken an additional step and purchased smiley face stickers to seal the envelopes (cheesy I know, but this get's the letter opened).I am anxious about taking this first step, but I am also excited in what the future holds in this endeavor.Any suggestions before I mail out this Thursday??

@Richard Gaston the only way you can who,sealed a HID home is to double close, no assignments allowed as with most REO's.

A combination of scrubbing/lots of sealing primer/ozone machine might be the ticket.
