The only reason we link accounts is to avoid the $25/month bank charge they apply to business/escrow accounts with balances that fluctuate below the $2000 limit as escrow pays out.

Yes there is a little more risk with a HELOC due to fluctuating interest rate but if your current loan has low fixed rate and new loan would increase that it might be a better option.
