I just finished doing some research on investing with private lenders, but I'm a bit confused still. 

Also perhaps even any private lenders who specialize in foreign investments?

In which case, get a private lender to finance you and after a year re-finance from bank.If you understand what I am trying to tell, and like to pursue this route, keep in mind there are lot of moving parts in this strategy.  

He's known that he needs to get started with raising private money for years, but hasn't been able to make it happen.

These guys can typically email or text their private money providers with the deal and the money is quickly sent.

You can probably find private money sources in your area.

I think the time spent running in circles for them would be better used finding a local private lender.
