There are several good articles on the web on the pros and cons of owning a vacation rental.

Scott's article entitled "Introduction to Real Estate Investing".

Wonder if all those Detroit vacants are being counted into the median home price.It's also not entirely clear from their website whether they are using a city-specific median income or a national one.I don't know how the affordability of housing is calculated for these types of articles.  

It could also provide a vast wealth of information for BiggerPockets to compile this information at a macro level in order to assist in the research you guys do for articles and podcasts about different markets.

I would start exploring the BP sight on MF articles, read some books and see if its for you.
