Most people just see the word "Paseo" and immediatly consider it to be in a rough area. 

I can see buying turnkey's out of state, but locally I don't see the advantage.

Being a condo isn't bad if you know how to value it and see the pros and cons.  

You can certainly see the reasons to have a HELOC in the future even if it may not be an option right now.  

I absolutely get what you're trying to say, and a few on this forum will unfortunately die before they see the fruits of their labor, but a great, GREAT, GREAT majority will live to enjoy the rewards of their current financial/social sacrifices.

So if you think you're doing your due diligence as a buyer and see the taxes are "only 900, or 1400" and you think: great these numbers work for me!

Hi Minh, there is a bus tour that you can take around the beltline that helps you see the condition of each neighborhood.

Also realized I didn't answer one of your initial questions:  They took my wife and I on a tour of various properties, one just completed duplex and then two homes that were in the process of rehabbing..both were torn down to the studs and we got to see the electrical, plumbing, drywall and rebuild stages.
