Either to the outlet metal box if BX flexible metal conduit cable was used, or a grounding wire has to be used if a plastic box and Romex plastic covered wiring is there.Romex wasn't originally up to code in many states, but now many allow it.

TBH quite enjoying the flexibility of renting and the enjoying the frugal benefits of saving and investing some funds in long-term stocks and ETF's.
