I’ve thought a lot about both approaches but the property I am thinking of fixing up is in the family and is technically not mine yet and aside from needing upgrades it has other problems associated with it.I am currently living in the property I've made some upgrades to the kitchen, bathroom, exterior and interior paint and I’m paying $500 rent that goes towards taxes.

The bathroom faucet seems tight but has no issues with cold and hot water, the kitchen faucet seemingly looks in bad shape but has absolutely no issues with hot and cold water.

The house was originally a single family home converted to a duplex and nothing was set straight; for example, a kitchen light was controlled by a switch hidden inside a wall, the pantry was in an old fire place, and it was leaking water through the threshold of the first unit.

In the end we updated all electric, all plumbing above basement level, new hot water tank, all new windows, removed a divider wall, installed a 1/2 bath, upgraded laundry to the second floor, full kitchen remodel, full bath remodel, and installed a rear exterior door to the back yard.
