I know they make fire suppression systems for grease etc. as my friends dad does those for restaurants but the cost is prohibitive for rentals.The tenant obviously seems to have had gross negligence here having a child in a bath and food on a stove is a non starter.

Usually free food and free drinks.

Cut the neighbors lawns and shovel snow for cash.Join the National Guard and save the income.Be an Uber driver.Be a COVID food shopper at the local grocery store for home delivery or pickup.Get a temp job.Be a Bartender as a second job.just my 2 cents.

Just like NY, you have a great subway system there and since traffic is one of the biggest headaches, and parking, then you may want market to those that don't want the hassle. . . just food for thought. . .

You can look for the best school district, lowest crime neighborhood, a radius around a Starbucks or Whole Foods, etc.

It does not get easier when you have to pay for your own housing and food and medical care.

Rationalizing illegal activity by saying you were not born to privilege is like a shoplifter saying they stole to put food on the table. 

Charity-wise I would pick the local VA Food Pantry, that recently was shutting its doors due to lack of donations.
