I think I have a unique situation in that I do not qualify for the de minimis safe harbor election test.

Over the summer, FHA tightened guidelines, which implies borrowers who were on the border of being able to qualify will now have to rent, which should translate to fewer defaults.

If that's the case, the de minimis safe harbor of expensing anything under $2,500 per invoice or per item may apply.
