I definitely am not claiming I knew much about RE when I started or that my purchases were above average.But I was fortunate to start in a market that even stupid purchases historically look great with time.Location and time can overcome a lot of stupid decisions. 

I have already made contacts who have helped me overcome some of the hurdles to getting my RE investing career started.

That small mistake was easily overcome by you thinking outside the box.

Truth is alot of investors are fakers.i got that from a podcast with joe mccall a nd nathan jurwicz. just know its a hurdle and keep going til you overcome it.you will probly get more respect by just staying a real person and being straight with everyone.those that are chauvinist just ignore them.

If you can demonstrate market knowledge, confidence and point to any successes you have, you will overcome most people's initial concerns.

So there's a sense of security I need to overcome.

Bad timing, a dishonest seller, and some twists of legal hurdles that we thought could be overcome turned out worse than expected.
