Anything you can truly own is a very strong position to be in.As to one thing to do with precious metals - an idea that came to my mind that I can't condone was get as many credit cards as you can, use them to buy precious metals, convert the precious metals back to currency, use the currency to purchase income producing assets free and clear and if Armageddon hits - default on your non recourse credit card loans and ride out the 7 years of "recovery" when there's going to be little to no credit available anyway and start anew 7 years down the road when you're credit record is cleared out and you have appreciating, free and clear, income producing assets....with a clear credit record.

If your cash position to invest is 500 or 5,000, the best advise is to continue to hoard and educate yourself through this site with seasoned pros in this industry and experienced pros in other asset classes els where. stock tips are worthless unless your friends dad works for an airline that gets a favorable decision on a plane crash case(wallstreet, circa 1987;). p.s. invest in what you know, if you know little invest in your education, books, seminars, etc.

I think that most of the bad earnings news are already reported as the companies that lost their shirt with bad investments have already reports bad earnings once or twice.You can say what you want about the dollar, but all the more reason for money on the sidelines to own assets instead of waiting around longer.

Qualified plans have greater leeway in regard to UBIT exclusions than an IRA in the fact that the qualified plan can leverage the assets but no plan can run an active business and escape UBIT.
