I get what you are saying, but to continue with your analogy of the medical field, I look for doctors who talk to me about my spiritual and emotional lives, as well as what is physically going on with me, because the three are inter-connected.

If a person has huge medical bills they cannot repay, even if they make a good income, or had a business go south and owe large amounts of money, after filing, the new income that comes in is often (not always) free of claims of the bankruptcy trustee.Only an attorney with knowledge of bankruptcy laws who looks at the specific facts can advise you safely.

Educational "investment" my butt.....it's a "bad debt".Oh, and to the people saying "get a 2nd job"....I don't know about him, but my classmates and I were specifically forbade (and had to sign contracts threatening to kick us out of school) from working outside of medical school and residency.

This issue combined with an unrelated bad investment and her husband's medical issues and subsequent job loss - it really was a perfect storm of crappy things for her - and she ended up declaring bankruptcy and sold her properties (she only had 2 besides her own home).
