Once gone they might go wild or stay in check.There is a difference between an illness you recover fully from, and ongoing illness where you maintain it and it never goes away, and an illness that progresses and is eventually terminal.

At that point I will consider a combo of selling/holding in order to meet the ultimate goal of purchasing  a retirement home in my beloved home town of Santa Cruz California to be close to my family again while maintaining a seasonal property back on the east coast to be able to spend time with my kids and extend family here.I am looking forward to learning more and meeting others who share similar interests here on BP!

Hope this makes sense.It sounds like it would make sense for the family to be prepared at any time for the purchase of the house or have an investor take over the property to help them maintain their residences.
