I actually just did a road trip from Jersey to Texas and visited a ton of markets and learned alot by going there, but it really just confirmed most of the information I learned by doing online research.20K might be a enough, depending on the house and what market you get into. 

Hi BP - I currently live (rent) and work in NYC but want to (i) house hack, and maybe down the road invest further, in New Jersey, (ii) invest with 2 people in multifamily properties in Massachusetts, one of which has a family connection to a property manger and contractor we will use, and (iii) have my own consulting business on the side, not related to real estate (but, in addition to active income, to use for a home office tax credit and other business expense write-offs, etc).

Hi all, I have this apartment on new jersey, where I rented to one girl only, recently she claim she lost her key and ask me and super for extra set of front door keys, also since I am the one who pays sewerage/water bill, i notice the bill almost doubled on this quarter. so i called super, super mention to me on the phone there is 2 extra people lives on the apartment as well as he got complaints of marijuana smell from the apartment.
