That previous owner stopped making her mortgage payments in July 2014, lost the house to the neighborhood association (had obviously also stopped paying association dues), which then sold it (for peanuts!)

It was surreal.or in our area when someone bought a second  for 100k on a 300k home thinking they got a home run only to find out it has a first of 300k... and they just lost the entire sum..

So half the income paying for the house was lost durning covid and my mortgage company offered differed payments by way of forbearance, which after everything said and done amounted to about 50k worth of unpaid mortgage……which is exactly what NY state will pay on my behalf.

About a year ago I had a few clients that were in balloon payments and that was the only way the bank would consider a loan modification with a traditional 30 yr fixed loan.After going 90 days late they got the loan modified cut the payment by a third and they lost about 150 points but they didn't lose their home.So I guess it all depends on the circumstance.But I cant see throwing away my credit history
