Hi Steve, rather than cashing out the 401k I recommend looking at setting up a self directed ira or (if you can qualify) even better, a Solo 401k.

I understand that traditional commission rates might not directly apply in this situation, so I'm curious to hear about any experiences or recommendations you might have.

Rolling over your former employer 401k to an SDIRA or Solo 401k is not a taxable event as it's a direct rollover.
