I probably wouldn't completely forego holding gold just because real estate may do very badly during a hyper inflationary environment where fiat currency becomes worthless.

Your dollar is worth less so you’re going to have to spend more to secure your asset, when credit evaporates home prices will vanish with it; Assuming the rest of the world will reject the inflated dollar as the world’s reserve currency, as credit dries up and home values collapse rents will follow suit.Welcoming all to let me know what you think below!

A key flaw your making in things is associating various markets unto each other, and things just are not that simple, the economy and GDP, stock exchange, commodities market, forex and real estate market have connections but are not tied unto each other and what affects one may affect another in various different degrees, or not at all. 08/09 collapse was a combination of bad speculative trading meet over-supply of real estate with a gravy coating of capital contraction.
