When you meet or hear about someone doing something complimentary to you, try and get to know them.

Most will provide a complimentary consultation.

Of course roles can cross but having complimentary skill sets is the best.

Find one or two AT MOST people with complimentary skills to partner up with to find and take down a deal.

The tenants you want are the ones who are very complimentary to the work that has already been done and are genuinely excited about living in the space because of how nice it is. 

They are complimentary to each other, so getting good at one will help you if you want to do the other, and vice versa.

My guess is he thought the article was going to be very positive and complimentary of what he was doing but it all backfired on him.
