The U.S. government has limited ability to provide emergency services to U.S. citizens in many areas of Mexico, as travel by U.S. government employees to certain areas is prohibited or restricted.

Last week I made a post about getting a US mortgage as a US citizen who lives abroad (https://www.biggerpockets.com/forums/49/topics/1219693-getti...).

As a non EU citizen, I will need a permit to purchase certain types of properties, except for residential (unit in an apartment). 

The city also seems to have many improvement plans in place to make the area more walkable and safer for citizens to freely navigate the downtown area and support local business.

Once I have a strong system set up, I don't want to dedicate too much time to real estate, though.It's also important to note that I'm a US citizen who wants to invest in US real estate, but I live abroad.

Non-US citizens can have LLCs in the US which will allow you to have a business in the US, pay taxes, and comply with laws.
