Some local fire departments will actually update smoke detectors for free as a service, but they may not give you the 10 year battery version.

Update to this, looks like for a new build, rent for this two bedroom ADU would be closer to $2,275.

Are you sure after 10 years and many updates it is only worth approx 75k more?

I'd also start networking (as much as you can with limited internet) and looking at potential properties so you have a better idea of what is available in your area/pricing.Please post updates as you can about your investing/flying journeys!
