We also need our basement entrance to come out the side or back corner of the house, as we don't want our renters having access to the backyard where our children play.

The small window at the base of the ceiling looks out above ground though the entire room is only accessible from the door leading to the hall out the front door, the window is not something that can be used for exiting in emergency, which I believe egress means.

I bet that cost him a lot but the tree was gone.The city here is also pushing for us to pay for new sewers (old small diameter clay ones are failing constantly) & what us to replace ancient Pb connections to all mains.

I had tenants whose first words were "we're Christian", then fail to pay rent for 4 months directly afterwards, fail to live up to any payment arrangements and then push their lack of payment back on me, telling me that my constant demands for payment weren't very Christian.

In Ontario its always recommended that tenants have rental insurance to protect their belongingsI don't see how you can be at fault unless the tenant previously notified you that something was wrong with the door or window that may have allowed easier access by the burglar
