Totally gutting a house is very hard to do lots of tedious work pulling drywall nails!

Gut remodel of all 12 units... and landscaping.

Don't gut the bathroom just because you don't like the popcorn ceiling.

Gut tells me something is odd but hey we are all different . 

Since I have a decent savings and essentially gutted the place I'm not too worried about large repairs outside of replacing the furnace for 2K in 2-4 years.

Go with your gut. 

Often also we need to support and endorse politicians simply because they will win, and we have to work with them for the next 2, 4, 6 years, even though we hate their guts and every thing they stand for.So it is entirely possible they actually support it.....but having worked on this same exact issue here in Maryland with both the Realtor lobby, Home Builders lobby, and some other groups....my inclination to believe is the support for this was because of much worse legislation that was arising. 

Your gut instinct is correct, your current situation is probably the result of your low financial literacy.

There are foreclosures at $5,000 to $10,000 90% of them are 100% gut jobs with windows broken out and water damage.
