That you receive a fee based upon referrals instead of an upfront advertising fee is a matter for your particular business model, not a matter for licensing.

i took it simply on the preface that i attend classes/workshops and try to learn from a model they teach.

The same thing with the owners, you could present them with a model tenant and they still find something to critique.
