I first got into residential REI last year. before this I have traded some land.

Obviously each position requires different skills and have different advantages i.e. compensation. 

At least you've got some valuable skills!

Ramp up your landlord skills.

Inside deals, tips/tricks of the trade, investors that your colleagues might know and the opportunities those may bring.

At this point the work has to be diy [ we've got some kids and grandkids our sons age with skills in painting, electrical work, flooring, sanding, etc] and the budget is tight.

This is how we work it in the building trades..

When I first started I knew a guy that did general handyman things, equipment trading, hauling, etc. 

Sadly, all I have to offer right now is the opportunity for others to hone their counseling skills. :)   That said, there may be partnership opportunities... and I will definitely need architects, builders, etc.Thanks for the recommendation on the REIA!
