Because you aren't selling, your tax burden is much lower AND you aren't constantly looking for the next deal because you just sold your last good dealIn the end, both are great vehicles for long term wealth, just depends on your interest level, time frame and ultimate goals.

@Mike RiceSome of the costs that you mentioned may be eligible to be written off / capitalized at the time of purchase.I.E. driving your vehicle to drive to locations to see properties.Unfortunately, the miles driven aren't counted as a deduction at the moment since you are not considered to be in the business of real estate / rentals.

I called my Insurance co. that covers my other homes and vehicles and asked point blank if they would cover my STRs as a vacation rentals business.
