It is often hidden away, or in a more dull or less noticeable colour than the 'add connections' style buttons as obviously LI wants to grow as many members as possible. 

@Corey Hajduk I was going to do the same thing, but at the top of each thread there is a button, "Monitor Topic", that allows you to be alerted if anyone posts to the thread.

@Jay Hinrichs I also think that the number of posts can be misleading in that some people post a bunch of nonsense and can get a high number of posts just because they have the intelligence enough to click the “post reply” button.
