You could even just go buy some potted plants at the gardening store, and place them around in their pots.  

The building is located in cook county, Illinois by the way, so it is not a terribly land lord friendly area.

It's just a normal house everyone cooks, cleans, works and participates in the community as a family but no one is related.

Shouldn't be as bad as boiling a huge pot of water all day long with the windows closed. :-)

I am in cook county, and I have never heard of that before.

In Cook county you would be required to put them up in a hotel until the issue is fixed.  

And if they leave belongings, make sure you get them to sign a move out sheet that explicitly states their belongings will be disposed of, so they can't sue you for their invaluable electronics/jewels/pot of gold they left behind and you threw out...
