To get the lower cost units they advertise, you really have to go with the low-end finishes that most of their cost-conscious buyers choose.

If it's graded/sloped towards a house with a basement, be very conscious of potential foundation issues.

It's already more than paid for itself in terms of me consciously choosing to save in various situations (and I'm already pretty damn frugal!)

Local property taxes in say Chicago will not just suddenly and magicly change - there would need to be conscious choices by policy makers to do the right thing by operating more efficiently.Effectively the property tax deduction has been a massive subsidy from the federal government to the local governments and SOME residents of these local markets.
