When I hauled away all the junk in the basement, painted its walls, and had the floor professionally scrubbed, lo and behold, the effective doubling of the house's useable square footage and the potential to create additional living space down there (maybe even a separate living area) became a nice selling feature to prospective buyers.

While you can put lipstick on, change carpet and paint color, floor plans become dated, boring, less functional, if you begin in a 75 year old property, you'll have a 100+ year old property in an old section by the time you get it paid off.

Let the games begin...less than 3 weeks ago I moved out of my private residence to put it up for rent, and I have already emptied it out, cleaned it, painted the interior that needed to be painted, and even hooked it up to county water (was on well, and was very hard water)!

The renovations all look good, the same paint colors, the same wood floors, the same 5' kitchens (which I imagine is common for turnkey providers).
