You can sometimes let your broker participate in an investment as a partner in lieu of commission, too.The only caveat I'll add, is that you really have to be "active enough" to do this.

If you only have a small amount of money to loan you might instead consider participating locally in a fractionalized loan.Fractionalized loans are typically for larger dollars and include several individuals as lenders on one note.
