It seems like every deal that I look at, I either come to one of the conclusion:  the property taxes are too high to pull a decent profit (Monroe); the area isn't a desired area (Port Jervis, Newburgh); or the property needs a lot of work and may have a huge hidden repair that is unknown to it due to old age.  

Pub 957, 1099-MISC Instructions, and Topic 144 all fail to address these specific questions and most likely will be interpreted with bias depending on who is reading them.

Not sure how long the batteries usually last but I’m thinking of keeping a secret lockbox hidden somewhere outside with a physical key to that lock in the case that the batteries die and I am offsite etc.
