I'm okay with repainting but they dug into the walls with pencils and markers ugggg.5. huge 18" long, 1" deep dent in wall moving out.  3 heavy coats of joint compound.6.

Slowing things down was the fact we needed to get a rehab loan because of some issues with the home that my bank didn't want to lend on (converted garage with bathroom) and a few minor cosmetic things) All things i was planning on taking care of anyway but just slows the process down.

I would absolutely replace the cabs, with 42" uppers (replacing that inaccessible area above the doors), a 24" deep cab over the reefer with a return or narrow broom closet on the left.Here's an idea I've used for an inexpensive but attractive alternative to granite for your price level: Have a local shop fab up black plastic lam tops with square front edges, and NO 4" splash.
