Ryan Dossey Whenever I head to the casino for a weekend gathering, I always decide how much I am willing to spend before I get there.While I don't encourage anyone here to spend their time at a casino, I think bidding on a property is essentially the same process.

Right after buying it though, I found out that I had to go on the road for 6 months, so I'm now trying to rent it out with a property manager.I'd like to build up a portfolio of residential rental properties in the Colorado Springs and Houston (where my headquarters are) areas.

I know the Houston market well don't hesitate to ask any questions. 

In contract on a SFR in the Houston area and looking for recommendations for an investor friendly insurance provider.  

If oil prices keep dropping and stay low (under $50 brent oil), there may be great buying opportunities in places like Houston which is obviously dependent on oil but at the same time is a desirable place to live due to its size and other offerings (cheap housing).  

I know that most people on here would strongly disagree with me on that but with my personal situation - I'm a self-employed entrepreneur with very uncertain and volatile income from year to year - I really don't like the idea of having a bunch of mortgage payments.Hey @Ali Boone  , thanks for chiming in :) I've been looking at turn-keys in Memphis, Houston, Dallas, Toledo, Dayton, and Birmingham.

I'm in a similar situation as you in the Houston area.Considering your background do you plan to do a lot of the work yourself or hire out for renovations?

I was wondering how to find a good deal because the MLS doesn't seem to have much down here in Houston.
