Real estate agents are not some interchangeable commodity (like any professional, each has their own specialization, background, education, experience, etc) and treating them like one is not going to win you any popularity contests (or get you a sneak peak at their best deals).

In CA, I own exclusively LTRs in quality neighborhoods and in FL, I own exclusively STRs in a highly-popular beach destination.

This summer there was however overall a big need for short term rentals/hotels around the country, and it's also a popular destination throughout the year, so I can imagine it being something to look into.
