Many of the people on these forums will tell you otherwise, but the bottom line is, my parents would never charge me rent and therefore, if I get in a place where I have to take care of them or house them, I would never expect them to pay me.

@Darius Kellar the rehabs did not due much to affect the price themselves at least not significantly (hard to say without listing it for sale as I'm in a small market), but according to the Zillow estimate the property value is about 65k, up 10k from when I bought it at the bottom several years ago.
