When she and her two housemates moved in, there was furniture already present (the place was rented unfurnished), left by the previous tenants.The landlord is now refusing to return the deposit, claiming that the cost of moving out the furniture (which was present when they moved in, and they left when they moved out) exceeds the amount of the deposit ($1550).

His drug dealer kept coming over, he'd stay up until 4h00am, make noise, etc I had some furniture in the rental basically and old bed, a desk, a 27 inch tv, a fridge and a range, he just used that because I didn't have time to remove then and didn't really care anyway, he never brought in ANY of his own furniture (he kept telling me his stuff was in a locker while in fact he didn't have anything).

Plus, that rush you feel in the depths of your belly when you knock on a stranger's door to talk to them about their woes is better than jumping out of an airplane.If you go the door knocking route, be aware that most people will not be home, so leaving a bulky package with a handwritten note also got me a decent response.
