A paper by Joshua Gallin published in Real Estate Economics (The long‐run relationship between house prices and rents) was a great place to start, and the gist I got is that we can measure risk in the home ownership market using the price to rent ratios, much like we do in the stock market with price to earnings ratios.

Be wary of loans where there is equity above as borrowers will tend to contest foreclosures more so than an underwater loan. also were applicable by law is default interest rate.. that can double or more the note rate.. not sure on owner occ stuff which I assume is 99% of what you guys play with.. but on commercial paper that I play with.. you can have a 10% rate but default interest rate can go to 25%..
