The manufacturer makes the product and sells to a wholesaler at a certain price , the wholesaler sells it to retail outlets at a markup and the retail outlet marks it up even further.  

All that being said, we now have manufacturing jobs in this high cost living SFBA.

Yet just because we look for the value, we eat healthier than most everyone we know, at a cost lower than most people who buy manufactured crap!

This is a massively complex issue, spanning law, epidemiology, economic, healthcare, finance, politics, manufacturing...areas no one person can have mastery, with far reaching second and third order effects that can't be encapsulated in the low fidelity ideas of "Shelter in place= the only option" or "give me back my civil liberties NOW rah rah Ayn Rand" Complex ideas require the ability to be nuanced and understanding that the other side may also have a point of view which you may not agree with because you don't comprehend it well.
