The subject property's "bonus" room over the garage was likely completed without a permit, has water damage stains on the ceiling's sheetrock, has a trip hazard immediately after entering the room (has a 6" blind step") and likely will have to be redone.

Schedule a trip to visit as the photos are very deceiving.

Since you will be living there you should plan a trip to Chicago to walk the various neighborhoods and find an area where you will be comfortable living.

I'm not opposed to getting a very small house, but I don't think my budget will allow for even a small house in the DC area in need of serious repair.I've been to DC a few times in the past, just to visit and on business trips, and this seems like a good fit for me.
