A typical 6 over 1 colonial style sash set runs in the $550-650 range plus install, which is an entirely different skill set than drop in vinyls.

Is it possible to be a general contractor just using sales & marketing skills? 

You need to be able to estimate repair costs, have great negotiation skills, be able to successfully run comps and calculate ARV etc. there are some great informational blog posts on BP about wholesaling.

If you're willing to trade the time and effort, your best shot is finding a deal yourself... but remember, this requires experience and skill as well. 

But I do things that are rarely recommended--- like trading work (mostly low skill work) for rent.

It's a real skill that takes time to learn!
