Building materials will get cheaper, but then people will want more, jacking the final price back up.Example: drywall is cheaper to install than lath & plaster, PVC is cheaper than cast iron stack pipes, etc.

I tried to estimate for worst case scenarios, Everything I install will be top end, plus I'm building kitchen cabinets, bath vanity, & any other cabinetry on site (indistinguishable from top of the line Thomasville type cabinetry) which will save me at least 10k - even more since I'm working for free.

We also understand that if we personally installed a water heater (or hired a non-licensed handyman) at one of our properties that blew up and killed someone that we would also have a similar fate (this implies direct personal negligence on our part).

All new windows, install a/c (only has swamp cooler), dryer plug (weirdest thing in the laundry room it only has a normal outlet and no 3 prong dryer but has gas hookups).

He quoted $330 (which includes the valves) to redesign our whole valve system so the wires are cleaned up, most of the PVC is underground (to avoid breaking), and installation of the new valves.This sounds like a fair estimate to me, but I'm new to this.

They won't tell you everything, but there is leeway in the requirements based on what type system you install.
