I cleaned it with TSP, caulked and filled the holes ,primed it with an oil based primer and painted 2 coats of good paint.  

Yet, in other parts of the country pricing is well below peak pricing that actually occurred post 2007 and did not start adjusting back down until after oil pricing began to crash again after 2014. 

Bakersfield was mostly an oil and ag community and both sectors were hit pretty hard which obviously took the area down pretty far, but in the past few years there have been massive changes and adaptations away from the solely ag and oil community. 

I wouldn't ask for mechanical advice from someone who's never changed oil before and I wouldn't ask for someone's thoughts about my REI goals if they don't know the first thing about it (even if they are family).

I have never experienced oil furnaces (or whatever they are called) either.
