So far we are looking at; both student flats and family homes in the Roslyn, Takaro, Awapuni, CBD and Kelvin Grove areas of Palmerston North; single family homes in Kamo, Raumanga, Kensington and Hikurangi of Whangarei; and both student flats and single family homes in areas of Otago.

I am not sure if that will even work since the program that allows 5% down is meant to be for parents buying a student home for kids away at university and specifically not landlords. 

We kept the other house and are renting it out to college students by the room, and each month we use the cash flow to save up and also to pay the mortgage on our new home.
