And keep your handyman on speed dial because there will be plenty of occasional electrical and plumbing and HVAC and hot tub issues, many of which will be minor but will still require your handyman to take a look.

Learn the basics of how mechanicals, plumbing, roofing, WATER MANAGEMENT ((ie gutters, downspouts, pooling water) all work. 

Also, the houses look older, so I am concerned about plumbing, foundations, electrical and roofing.

This assumes updating all they systems, roof electric plumbing and A/C.  

Here is the verbiage of the 2 major items from the report:"Support columns were found to be deficient as follows: The support column(s) was/were out of plumb.

This one needed a new roof (including framing, flooring throughout, plumbing, both baths remodeled, rewired all the electrical and several additional odds and ends like paint, trim, pointwork, a lid on the septic system etc.

I updated the plumbing and painted the interior.

If I have something small (backed up plumbing, outlet not working, etc) I don't call the warranty company.

Plumbing and HVAC may sometimes make weird sounds in the walls.

I'll be the first to say that I am a bit scared especially of the electrical or plumbing or just being taken advantage by a contractor.
