That's a loaded question but it mostly depends on your budget and your exit strategy.

You're assuming I'm buying C or D class that may require loads of CAPEX. 

Other than that I try not to eat out of the house more than once per week as virtually everything you eat out is loaded with salt, fat or sugar. 

The upper level would be overflow capacity in the peak season and a 4-week or 12-week rental to digital nomads in the off-season.

So I loaded up and spent the best part of a whole day driving to the property and coming back home.

Get it rented and figure out what went right and what went wrong.Based on that first experience figure out what strategies you want to employ in the future to increase your returns/decrease your work load. 

If you want to value add you are better off with a structurally sound unit that is priced low and you can rebuild from the ground up front loading the risk.
