There is a genuine housing shortage of all kinds on the coast, long term rentals included.

When I originally did permitting on the main house I thought I did it for the detached garage but I didn’t.

By talking more to the police, we found out that the main tenant had a long history of inviting guests in exchange for help around the house and that those relations would always turn tumultuous and that the police visited the house several times each quarter over civil complaints, suspicious activity, noise, drug related activity, and a bunch of other civil nuisance type of calls.

Where I buy houses the average lot size is about a quarter of an acre.

I like the area just northeast of the train, has a very neighborhood feel and most of the houses seem fairly well cared for.  

And on the other side, I've seen some vacation rentals that are otherwise nothing special but they put in a cool wall of bold wallpaper, pay for nice furnishings and develop a vibe and they outperform their competition.
